Dear friend,
Are you curious to understand your mind
a little better than you do now?
I bet you are.
You have seen
that any insight you gain
into how your mind works
strengthens you.
Understanding your mind
builds the core foundation
of your freedom.
Alas, your mind does not come with a manual.
You have to figure it out yourself!
Here in Solutions
we usually dive into the deep end.
But today, let’s just take a little wade!
Let’s each of us ask ourselves
a very basic question:
What sort of personality do I have?
Our personality
Our personality is a kind of lens.
It’s like a pair of eyeglasses.
We see the world
through the lens of our personality!
Different personalities view the world
in very different ways.
Yet we all tend to assume
everyone else is looking
through the same lens we are!
We can’t understand why this other person
needs to talk first before taking action
when we just want to get things done!
We wonder:
Why does he keep dwelling
on the emotional considerations of every decision
instead of just evaluating the facts?
Why does she want to just stay home
and read a book
rather than go to the party with me?
People and their different personalities
frustrate us
and at times infuriate us.
We get beyond such reactions
when we accept
that others have a different personality.
They are not looking at life
through the same glasses we are!
A rare bird
When I was a young girl
I was very different from other children
and I knew it.
I simply did not fit in.
I was so different
I figured I was either a lunatic or a genius.
Can you imagine how crestfallen
I was to discover, years later,
that I was neither?
Just a highly intelligent
highly sensitive girl
with the rarest of all personality types:
INFJ.
Only one in a hundred people are this type.
No wonder I didn’t fit in!
So what about you?
Let’s have some fun with this.
How about if you actually find out
what personality type you are?
You can use the best assessment tool I know—
the Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI.)
It identifies 16 personality types.
My type — INFJ — is one of them.
This tool is highly accurate
and I have found the results essential
for understanding myself and others.
There are many short form versions
available online for free.
I just took this one:
Free Personality Test
It correctly identified me
as an INFJ,
gave me a clear explanation
of what those letters mean,
then provided me with an accurate
and highly insightful profile of my personality.
If you are new to personality assessment,
learning your profile will be enlightening.
It will contribute greatly
to your efforts to figure out your mind.
So why not give it a go!
Here it is again:
After you take it
After you complete your assessment
and have read your results
you may feel a bit stunned…
All of a sudden
somebody is providing you with a profile…
claiming that you have a certain kind of personality!
No, they didn’t look in a crystal ball.
They identified your type
based on your answers to questions
about how you experience day-to-day life.
You have simply been informed
that your answers indicate
one of the 16 profiles.
You may not agree with your profile.
Parts of it, or all of it.
But I hope
that as you read your profile
you will feel
“O my…isn’t this fascinating…”
I hope that at least some aspects
of your nature
will become more understandable to you.
I hope you feel a door open.
What knowing my type did for me
I certainly felt a door open
the day I found out my type.
I was reading in depth about personality type
in the excellent book
Do What You Are by Tieger and Barron.
Knowing my type allowed me
to make sense of the way I approach life.
Why I am so motivated to fulfil
my highly idealistic mission,
why I am so emotional and feel everyone’s suffering,
why I seek to answer the deepest toughest questions
so I can share insights that liberate people.
Understanding my personality
shed so much light
on my best path forward in life.
What will knowing your type do for YOU?
Knowing the lens
through which you see the world
is an excellent way to begin
figuring out your mind.
You will gain clarity
on your own approach to life.
Knowing your personality type
will greatly assist you
in navigating your present and future years
no matter what stage of life you are in.
If you are in a relationship
both of you learning your personality types
will greatly increase your potential
for mutual understanding and harmony.
Understanding your personality
will help guide you to move
toward the kind of destinations
you are made to reach.
Blessings,
Dr. Hall
Question:
Were you able to have some fun exploring personality with me?
Well that was fun! I am an "Architect"! INTJ. I always enjoy self examination. How else can we grow? How else can we work on our weaknesses, temper our flaws? And mostly, it's a great way to build on our strengths. If we decide to be open.
Thanks for cracking open my brain - again. Love your letters!
"We see the world through he lens of our personality " 👍
Wow. Another enjoyable piece, Deborah. My personality type from the test was ENTJ-A and it was spot on! This is so me.
I'll need to re-read the results so I get to have a much better understanding of who I am.
Thank you yet again for another beautiful post. Always a good way to kick off the weekend.
