How we will keep our Republic
Dear friend,
As I write to you today
we are only a few days
from the election.
We do not know
who will win.
We do not know
if there will be
an attempted coup.
And we do not know
if there is an attempted coup
whether or not it will succeed.
But there is one thing we do know:
Our Republic will never be destroyed.
Why?
Our Republic will never be destroyed
because our burning love of America
that millions and millions of us
hold deep in our souls
gives us the strength
to protect our Republic.
We are going to protect it
in all domains of our life.
We are going to keep it alive
in our hearts and minds
and neighborhoods.
And we are going to
REPAIR ANY DAMAGE
that any petty tyrant
ever attempts
to inflict upon it.
Hear me now
No one
has the power
to destroy our beloved Republic.
Even if Trump
and his fascist henchmen
and henchwomen
attempt to dismantle it
brick by brick
according to their godawful 2025 manifesto
they will never succeed in destroying
the immortal foundation of our Republic.
Our Founding Fathers built it for us
with their blood
their sweat
their tears
their lives.
And we will rebuild
any dimension of our Republic
that is ever violated.
We will rebuild it
even stronger
than it ever was.
Fascists prey on the powerless
Those of our fellow citizens
who feel powerless to build a life
are particularly vulnerable
to the brainwashing
of fascist con artists like Trump.
He preys upon their vulnerabilities.
He inflames them
with sick ideas and lies
that prop them up
and make them feel powerful.
It is tragic that so many
of our fellow countrymen and women
feel so powerless
that they find the phony “STRONG” Man Trump
and his lies so appealing.
It is tragic how much they enjoy
joining him in playing victim
and in victimizing others.
Those of us who do not need
a dictator to hide behind
will never join this sick cult.
Nor will we ever allow this petty tyrant,
his sick ideas,
or the cult who adores him
to have the slightest power
over who we are.
We are the heirs of 1776
Fascists love to wrap themselves in the flag.
It is an abomination.
Those who worship a dictator
have no claim on our flag!
The flag is for we
who would never have submitted
to King George
and who will never submit
to King Trump.
We are the heirs of 1776.
We are the heirs of all who fought
and sacrificed
then and since
to establish, build, defend and extend
the liberty of our Republic.
We are the heirs of Tom Paine
and Harriet Tubman.
Of Abraham Lincoln
and Martin Luther King.
Thankful
and wide awake
we go forth with joy to vote for Kamala Harris.
This courageous beautiful brilliant leader
we want so much
to be our next President!
And whether we win or lose the election
we Americans who cherish our Republic
will continue to stand strong.
Fascists always fail
Even if the fascists win this election
they will ultimately lose.
Why?
Because fascist leaders are sick.
They bite the hands that feed them.
They always betray
the poor and working people
who voted for them!
This betrayal will be a terrible shock
and a grievous loss
for our vulnerable fellow citizens
who were conned by Trump
into believing their lives would improve.
He isn’t going to fix anything!
They are going to be way worse off
than they are now!
He is going to abandon them.
And when he does
none of us should gloat.
There but for the grace
of inner strength
and civics education go we.
With malice toward none
you and I are going to welcome
our abandoned fellow citizens
back into the loving fold
of our democracy.
And together
our long lost Union of red-and-blue
will recover our sacred bonds
and rebuild
our beloved Republic.
What stands in our way?
FDR said
“the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
I disagree.
Even if we are utterly terrified
we will still achieve
the glorious victory of freedom.
The only thing we have to fear is SURRENDER.
The only true danger is submission to a tyrant.
I will never submit to a tyrant.
You will never submit to a tyrant.
THIS is how we will KEEP our Republic.
Props on this, Doc. Glad to count you as a friend as well as a patriot.
These are fine sentiments and a totally positive message, but experts in authoritarian movements describe project 2025 as giving so much power to the office of the President that structural changes will be made that can never be undone at the ballot box in the future. I do not believe he has a chance to win, but am concerned he will try to steal the election with violence again or through the courts.
