on being unstoppable

dear friend

no doubt

there have been

some wickedly painful

events

in our life

perhaps

many of them

that

by all rights

should have

killed us

physically

emotionally

spiritually

politically

or all

of the above

should have

left us

decimated

destroyed

and hung

out to dry

and yet

here we are

living and breathing

right here

today

vital members

of our community

and our beloved republic

quite the miracle

ain’t it

what does it mean

it means

we are unstoppable

if we weren’t

we would have been

stopped cold

long ago

it means

every one of us

here today

is stronger

than we think

more capable

to overcome

the obstacles

in our way

more capable

to revive

and rebound

each time

we bite the dust

more capable

to continue

moving ahead

toward

our life goals

even when

some people

around us

give up

on us

more capable

to survive

outlast

and prevail

through

all our battles

and live

to tell

the tale

what makes us unstoppable

we have built

deep and principled

inner strength

psychological physical

spiritual and political

we have built

a solid core

of mind body and soul

we are assertive

and proactive

and

we utterly refuse

to surrender

to despots

inner or outer

we have

a certain look

in our eyes

that says

don’t mess with me

and

don’t bother

betting against me

our look

comes from

our confidence



based

in our accurate

self knowledge

the knowledge

we have affirmed

by proving

to our self


again

and again

and again



that

we will make it

through anything

and everything

life

or the destructive part

of our own mind

can throw

at us

we prove

to our self

beyond

any doubt

that we will

stand up

when it counts

and

whatever

we decide to do

we will do

our decision is the crucial step

we may have

been told

that follow through

is the most important

thing


in achieving

our goals

in life

nope

it’s the decision

without

the ironclad decision

at the very outset

i will DO this

there will be

no follow through

everything depends

on

the strength

of our decision

our decision

must be

a wise one

aimed at achieving

a worthy

and honorable goal

one that is

at least to some degree

attainable

we must

take great care

in choosing

our goal


but once

we have

made our decision

it’s a done deal

the victory occurs

when we decide

everything

from that moment

flows forward

like a strong wave

heading relentlessly

toward

our destination

the wave may go

this way

and that

be temporarily

delayed

or diminished

but the

power

of the decision

that propels

the wave

remains

in vital force

there is

to us

no other

conceivable outcome

than our

eventual arrival

at our ultimate

and deeply desired

destination

as margaret thatcher

put it

defeat?

i do not recognize

the meaning of the word

we never surrender

we never obey

or play victim

to any

would be dictator

in our own mind

in our family

or in the world

we never ever

bet against

our self

and we

stay far away

from anyone

who has the gall

to do so

being unstoppable

my friend

is a beautiful and serene

way to live

we embrace

our full potential

every day

wide awake

and

out of denial

we are neither

pessimists

nor cynics

we are optimists

and realists

tenacious builders

of freedom and justice

for all

we not only

expect

our loving efforts

to succeed


we apply

unstoppable

inner strength

to make sure

they do

thus we live

in the security

of knowing

that even when

a major blow

hits us

and knocks

the wind

and our teeth

right out of us

we never quit

we just

spit out the blood

and keep going
