Deciding to grow. I think some of us have that baked in. And some of us "get it" mid stream.
I always thought growing was natural. And then at some point I had an AHA! I wasn't! Wasn't focusing on it. Wasn't fully embracing it. I thought I was a growth agent. But I was stuck. At 50 years old, I relaunched. My life took off like a rocket.
IMO, part of our national (global?) problem is that too many of us stopped considering new ideas. Just stopped. Stopped listening. Stopped learning. Stopped being open to new concepts. Concepts that might work. But they didn't fit the propagandized narrative.
The self destructive polarization of our current discourse is an example of people deciding they know everything. That they have the answers instead of listening and growing a new community that nurtures growth and kindness.
Not economic growth. That is a false God. But growing in empathy and thinking like a species instead of warring tribes. That is real growth - as in continuing to evolve.
We have stalled. Like a broken car. Repairs are urgently needed.
It is often and well said that if we stop learning and growing, we die. There is no middle ground in life, and we can choose growth or the entropic cycle that leads to a living death. Today's meditation is an outstanding example of why loving interaction with ourselves and those who add to our lives is the only positive choice.
Thank you Deborah. I differ only in my belief that time is never lost unless we let it go. People who decline to learn from their mistakes have already decided to stop growing and are on the downward spiral. Anyone who refuses to allow for the possibility that someone can learn from the errors we all make and grow thereby is, if it is possible, on an even worse path because they compound the error. Of course it is essential to verify that the learning has taken place, and we all know what happens when we assume.
Part of an ongoing conversation with my daughter who is concerned that, because she isn't right now having a major impact on the world at 31 she has wasted her life to date.
As do I. Jo's problem is one of perspective and self confidence as much as anything else and she is gradually, with some professional support, coming to realize her inherent value as a person and the good that she has the ability to do by her nature.

βWhen I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety;
if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain.
From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me.
There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.β - Shams-i Tabrizi
yes this is true al
what we need
needs us
and what we want
wants us
attraction operates
at the unconscious level
as annie lennox sings
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused
this is why it behooves us
to challenge
our unhealthy wishes to suffer
so that we will attract
and be attracted by
healthier people

Another great one.
thank you dear fred
i am deeply encouraged
by your generous view
of my work
ππ
thank you william
i am so glad
you liked it ππΊ
Being kind and generous doesnβt require much thought or effort, but the residuals keep growing.
thank you babette
what a lovely original insight
about growth!
the perpetual growing residuals
that come of being kind
and generous
kind and generous souls
are perennial flowers πΊ
who bloom daily
and in perpetuity
while nurturing others
to bloom
even more profusely πΊπΊπΊ

what a wonderful
deep response
to my letter dear bill
thank you for your time
and thought
i will ponder
and reply tomorrow
you have nailed it bill
we have indeed stalled
like a broken car
thinking our engine
is economic growth
yes that is a false god
and we elected an idolatrous liar
who worships it
one who promised the golden fleece
but is instead giving us
quite the fleecing
as he destroys himself
he is attempting
to take us down with him
but we who love freedom
ain't goin' down
we are connecting with each other
and thanks to minneapolis
we finally get what community means
together we are building/rebuilding
the healthy unstoppable
constitutional engine of democracy
the loving engine that lasts
principled strong
compassionate and kind
and always open
to new ideas
new solutions
new growth
we are uniting in deep relationship
to make all necessary repairs ourselves
with merciful forgiving welcoming hearts

thank you dave for facing us
with the stark reality
we have no other positive choice
but to grow
it is grow or go down
and
we not only have to choose growth
we have to choose accelerated growth
to make up for lost time

wow dave
what a lovely insight...
time is never lost
unless we let it go

we who truly desire
to have a major impact
on the world
are the only ones
who ever will
our impact
is built from every day
of our life
what we see
what we learn
what vision we create
that we can offer
none of our development
is wasted
she is in the workshop
feeling the passage of time
it takes great faith
to believe we will have
a major impact
on the world
at 77 I still believe it
we give our best
with all our heart
all our mind
all our soul
and all our body
that is all
our lord asks of us
we feed his lambs
with everything we have
to give
