Two doses of sunshine today, Deborah; one outside where it's about 75 and featuring the first sustained sun this week, and the second in your challenging missive.
The Golden Mean has been construed in different ways for different reasons ever since Aristotle committed it to teaching and writing, but your presentation is unique in that it enables and encourages us to achieve that balance first within ourselves and then in our relationships with the rest of the world.
One way or another, it will be an interesting spring and a time of change; if we accept your challenge, improvement is inevitable.
Your eight questions are wonderful. Wouldn't it be nice if this was the thought process presented by today's politicians and leaders?
By helping ourselves learn and by helping others, even in small ways, we do build strength ... and potential happiness!
I have a brain that wants to solve problems and find out how to prevent them in the future. Leads to proactive behavior. Fix that little issue before it becomes a big one.
Replace smoke detectors or their batteries regularly. Rather than standing on a chair at 2:00 AM...losing balance....
The same philosophy could be applied to our brains and our hearts. But here's the thing. Too many people are naturally lazy or they grew up around lazy people. And they just let stuff happen...and complain.
Thanks for another really good "solution" Doctor Hall!
When you are kind to yourself, healing follows.
“There is no happiness if the things we believe in are different than the things we do.” - Albert Camus
thank you al
for these profound ideas
many people
don't actually realize
how unkind they are
being to themselves
even while being
very kind to others

i do love being sunshine 🌞
and i appreciate your recognition
of the way i address
the inner and outer world both
i am always striving to show
that the same dynamics
are at work on both levels
wishing you a happy spring 🌱

i love how you think
and how proactive
you are in life
it is astonishing
how much suffering
can be prevented
by taking initiative
i love politics
because it is
such a major channel
for us to DO that
people are passive
and our job
is to inspire them
to constructive action
