As always well prepared advice. I wish to share with those who have thought about writing but have not yet picked up a pen figuratively or literally. I published my first book at 81 years of age. My life’s motto was learned from my favorite university professor, “Motivation is the secret of it all”. If you are motivated but think your work might not be accepted, don’t let that keep you from expressing yourself. Why look in the mirror years down the road and say, “I shoulda, woulda, coulda”. Don’t leave any of life’s pages unturned, that you are capable of turning.

I'm primarily a reader who occasionally is inspired to comment on other people's excellent writing of which this is an example. Less often, the ideas that develop from my reading coalesce into writable form and I publish something here on Substack or on Facebook that a few people are kind enough to read and seem to enjoy. There is a growing file called Random Thoughts in No Particular Order that, if I ever persuade myself to edit and organize might get self published, possibly posthumously. Your work is inspirational as well as cautionary and I am aware of my own limits. Thanks Deborah.

Thank you for your inspirational writings Deborah. I always feel motivated by your creations and even if I am not always ready to act on them in the present moment, the seeds you plant are germinating and taking root. I have been pondering sharing a tribute to my late Father which I shared on Facebook and my oldest sister contact me later in the day yesterday to say she wanted to reserve her space now for me to write her eulogy instead of one of the other boneheads in the family! 🤣 I was deeply hoping by her request.

Yes Deborah to all your great questions.

Actually I have written two books and many articles, and I would love to write more.

The problem is that I just don’t have the time to do it now.

And you might say, “Just make the time”, but I can’t because I am passionately committed to the things that I do —- especially to fighting to stop global warming/ climate change which increasingly menaces the future of my own grandchildren and of all future generations of human kind and most other species as well.

But like you, I encourage anyone who wants to be a writer to just do it. To remember that all of your stories are well worth sharing with others, because often a good or even a sad story can be their best friend.

And for inspiration I recommend that all would-be writers read the wonderful books authored by Ian McEwan, particularly ENDURING LOVE.

you have answered a question for me and it's not about writing (which I already pursue) so thank you. You go deep, which is where it is.
