Thanks for this post. It really hurt me to see people on the side of the truth lose this election, to the point of not even caring about living. I had to realize that I think I cannot do well and my life sucks so I really was counting on seeing other people thrive and the nation prosper to buoy up my enthusiasm. I don't have a sense how I can use this for my problem, I just don't know what to do, how I can earn a living and be a useful person again without the ability to lift things and be on my feet as part of a job. Ironic that having health improvements beyond my wildest dreams would usher in a new problem I don't know how to tackle. I will be re-reading this post many times. Too bad there is no mental health care anymore unless you are signing up for "medication management".
Thank you for posting this. It is profound. I would submit that, prior to solving a problem, one must acknowledge that the problem is a problem. I once found myself in a police department as part of my work. There was a poster announcing an engagement party for two officers. The person i was working with told me it would be one officers third marriage and the others fourth. Think about that. Between the two of them they had 7 failed marriages. At what point do you look in the mirror and ask "Could it be me?."
So it is with many national problems. If a problem can't be stated as a problem for political reasons, i.e. some group would get their collective feelings hurt, how can it be solved?
The problem I have with "why" is that it's endless and stops me from acting. Instead I ask, what and how? What am I doing and how am I doing it. Then I can choose to change or continue.
Are you familiar with Harry Browne's book, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World?
Thinking about your several posts about the political situation, I've never been affected by who is the President & I've always lived the life that I've wanted to live. President's come and go, and my life goes on and I do the things that I want to do and if I can't do them, it's not because of who's President.
You haven't been affected by who was president? You didn't have a friend or relative involved with our idiotic wars? You don't have any rage (that could have been joy) when you hear millions of us suffering or dying because of a president's decision or deceit?
Perhaps we are decending into an abyss of anarchy and fascism because too many of us aren't paying attention? Like the 90 plus million who did not vote and therefore are accomplices in the future destruction of our Earth?
Your bubble is like pulling the covers over your head and going back to sleep. But they can still bash down your door and take you away. Or just cut back your Social Security check or wreck your health insurance or cause your neighbor to die for lack of health care basics. And soon much more.
It's those who did vote who are responsible for the outcome, not those who didn't vote.
The earth will be destroyed no matter what I do or don't do.
No one in Thailand is going to "bash down my door and take me away."
I don't have health insurance.
My neighbors can go to the dr. for $1, I can go for $4.
Although I'm interested in what goes on in the US, other than the fluxuation of the dollar, I'm not affected by what goes on their, and when I lived in the US, as I said, I wasn't affected by who was the President.
At any rate, I'm far to old to live in anger, it's not productive and I prefer to live what little time I have left, in peace.
Now I understand. You have embraced the meism of Harry Browne's libertarianism. There are "me people" and there are "we people". I tried that on for size a long time ago. The more I realized how harsh and discriminatory the libertarian philosophy is...the more I was repelled. To each his own.
I also agree that the Earth will be destroyed eventually. Everything is. But maybe, just maybe for a few more years or eons, we could work on making it a better place rather than giving up. There is great satisfaction in that effort. Uneven progress is still progress.
Enjoy. Some people think Thai food is the best. Too many peanuts for me. I am allergic.
I do love your last line. But we don't have to be angry to fight fascism. Just tough and persistent. Peace to you.
The parts of Harry Browne that I liked are: being responsible for one's choices and actions and if you like what you have or are doing, keep it and continue, if not change.
Only some Thai foods have peanuts and nearly all of them have too much sugar, salt and chiles for me. My wife takes that into acct. when cooking Thai food.
Tough and persistent I agree with. It also works for fighting most things that disrupt our lives.

Taking personal responsibility ... what a concept. Well done, Deborah!

1st. question: No.
2nd. " No.
