A breath, and a moment to reset. Whenever I'm confronted with the wall that we all hit sometimes, I step back and consider the ways I've gotten over such barriers in the past. Faith supports the conviction that I will do it again. There is only one insurmountable wall in life, and the Reward on the other side makes all the trials we face here worth the experience.

What a beautiful response, Dave.

Thank you.

There is a peaceful feeling to what you say here--

That you take a breath...

and give yourself grace to reset...

knowing you have made it through before..

and having faith that you will again...

Yes all our trials are worth it

and we will leave it all on the field

Hi Deborah. This is really cool. Thanks for your inspiration.

Are you familiar with David Goggins? Or Jocko Willink? Both are former Navy SEALS who are in the popular culture space. Both have the "conquer your mind" mindset.

Goggins' story is amazing. So is Willink's. Jocko has always said "discipline eats motivation for breakfast." Pretty strong statement.

Neither man gets their mental strength from faith, but have retrained their minds to conquer whatever obstacle is before them. To my mind, whatever your source of strength, draw from it! Use it.

Thank you, Jim, for bringing forward to us the contributions of Navy Seals!

I have always had great respect and admiration for their mental strength.

I shall look up these two Seals

and their stories.

Haha I LOVE Jocko Willink's declaration:

"Discipline eats motivation for breakfast"

Here is David Goggins website: https://davidgoggins.com/

This dude is hard core. He had a very difficult upbringing, abused by his father, abandoned by his mother. His language is rough, but he bears his soul in his testimonies.

Here is Jocko's website: https://jocko.com/

Jocko was a SEAL commander and one badass dude. But he also is a rational, deep thinker and popular motivational speaker/author. Has done TED talks multiple times.

Personally, I find inspiration from their messages. I'm in the process of overcoming a rather nasty attack of Shingles, which has done serious damage to my left leg. But I'm determined to use all of my physical and mental strength to overcome.

Thank you, Jim, for sharing these valuable resources with us.

I went to both sites, and can see how inspiring these men and their stories are.

I am very sorry you are dealing with serious damage from shingles.

It is great that you have these two invincible warriors with you

as you battle your way through to overcome the shingles attack.

We are with you.

And yes, each of us experiences the challenge differently, and each draws strength from different sources. We are learning from each other here

so that we can draw from what each other has found valuable. I have already learned a lot today!

Solutions is for collaborating

Answer: A quick change in mindset by acknowledging “I can do hard things.” Prayer always helps, too.

Thank you, Will, for sharing what you do to keep going when the going gets tough.

I can feel the impact of your statement

"I can do hard things" when I say it now,

There is a calm certitude in those words!

It must come from knowing I have done hard things before. Very reassuring.

And I hear you that making this mind shift

quickly---sooner rather than later---is best.

My dear Dr. Hall, you just gave it to me. With the loss of my beloved husband, and soon to lose my beloved sister, combined with the state of my beloved country, I did have dark moments of not wanting to go on. I realize now, thanks to what you wrote an achieved, that what I’ve been missing was appreciation and acknowledging all the blessings bestowed on me. With this comes the realization that as long as I live the blessings will continue, because though I am old I have a lot to give, and in giving comes blessings. Thank you Dr Hall, and congratulations on an almost miraculous feat. You have turned my life around, and have earned another blessing!

Great advice! What I do is break up my goal into a bunch of smaller tasks and then each successful accomplishment is a stepping stone to the final completion.

Yes! Thank you so much, Stanley,

for sharing how you break up your goals to make them possible to accomplish.

I often feel overwhelmed

when facing my huge ambitious goals

(haha I have several :)

I need to work on doing as you say:

break them down into smaller tasks.

I need to create a step by step flow chart.

Then I will do as you say in the heading of your substack "Pieces of Poetry":

"Just put one foot in front of the other and keep walking"
