A great reminder to love and care for ourselves. That makes it possible, and easier, for us to love and care for others.

Dr. Hall,

Such a great reminder of how our bodies and spirits are linked. In the Christian faith the bodily Resurrection of Jesus shows that God honors our body, and not just on earth but for eternity.

All the best and thank you.

Steve

Dr. Deborah Hall: You state rare truths with such poetic beauty and with deep psychological insight, which I urge all to read.

In a dark time, this is one of the most constructive, most positive pieces I have read.

This is a candlelight in the darkness.

Deborah, as always I appreciate your insightful advice.

But I wonder if, as you say, “we humans are finally awakening to the urgent fact that we must honour our beloved earth”. What about Donald Trump’s tragically influential perspective “Drill baby drill” ? Even in Canada today only 4% of Canadians are very concerned about our climate crisis. It seems to me that increasingly we humans are apathetic about the wellbeing of our precious Mother Earth.

This is great advice, when you have lost your most important human capital it can actually be painful to see how other people are taking perfectly healthy bodies and trashing them with bad habits. Certainly for men with physical disabilities, however, I would suggest looking at it like you are NOT your body, but a consciousness that experiences life through a body. There has been a lot of pain involved with getting in that condition. There has been a loss of livelihood and most assets. If you did not already have a devoted gal there is no real prospect for affection. So remembering how far and where your choices got you in life before your body was broken and identifying with a set of choices and behaviors as yourself and not your body as the self can be a useful tool for men.

Beautiful letter Deborah, and perfect reading for a stormy Easter Sunday morning.

I question only "the preacher

who confronts our ingratitude" because far too many clergy not only fail to confront ingratitude to God for the gifts we are given, but fail as well to challenge our refusal to accept and follow as best we can the commandment from Jesus that we "love our neighbor as we love ourselves."

On this day and forward, in the spirit of that ideal and pursuant to your letter I will take better care of myself and strive to do the same for those I can.
